THE OWNER
With more than 33 years of experience in education, Dr. Amy Wooten Thornburg is the owner and lead educator of New Heights Learning Center, LLC. She holds a Master’s degree in Education with a focus on literacy and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with focus on literacy education and working with at-risk learners. Her career spans roles as a K–12 teacher, professor in a School of Education, leader of a School of Education, instructional coach for teachers and school leaders, and school district consultant, and Director of Departments in two large school districts in North Carolina.
Dr. Thornburg brings extensive expertise in literacy instruction, assessment, and the Science of Reading, with a strong record of supporting ESL students, Exceptional Children (EC), and students with varied learning needs. She is licensed in K–12 education, Exceptional Children, and Literacy, and has spent decades partnering with teachers, district leaders, administrators, students, and families to provide education support that is research-based, responsive, and effective. Her commitment to academic excellence is evident in her approach, which is grounded in the belief that all learners can succeed when instruction is informed, intentional, and individualized. Dr. Thornburg's fous is always leading students to new heights in both education and motivation through individualized tutoring.
